Dental X-Rays
Why We Need X-rays
Dental x-rays are useful to the patient and dentist in diagnosing the following conditions:
- Finding new areas of tooth decay between the teeth and under old fillings and crowns
- Evaluating the bone support around your teeth and checking for gum disease
- Checking for and discovering abscesses and infections of the teeth and gums
- Finding cysts and tumors
Many of these conditions are easy to treat if caught at an early stage. However, waiting until you have symptoms such as pain, means treatment of any of these conditions will be more difficult, more expensive, and less effective. In fact, if let go too long, any of these dental conditions can threaten your overall health. Necessary x-rays help us diagnose dental disease early, when it is easiest to treat.
Concerned about X-rays? We Are Too!
This simple diagnostic tool is often misunderstood. Dr. Maynard and his staff take radiation seriously. We have always taken steps to minimize our patient’s exposure. We use lead aprons and the most current x-ray technology. Recently, we have begun using digital x-rays to reduce what was a minimal radiation exposure an additional 80%. In addition to reducing radiation, digital x-rays give us the ability to magnify and modify the x-ray image. This allows Dr. Maynard to better diagnose any disease. In addition, he can show you any areas of concern on an enlarged image to help you make an informed decision about your treatment recommendations.
